Naval Station Norfolk is the world's largest naval station and supports the readiness of the Atlantic Fleet. Over 57,000 military service members, 13,000 civilian personnel, and 5,000 contractors work at Naval Station Norfolk. It is the home port of Carrier Strike Group 2, Carrier Strike Group 8, Carrier Strike Group 10, and Carrier Strike Group 12 as well as the Navy Warfare Development Command, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, Navy Reserve Forces, Navy Fleet Readiness Center, Naval Surface Force Atlantic, Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic, Navy Exchange Command, Navy Safety Center, and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

Naval Station Norfolk is located on the north side of Norfolk in the Sewells Point area in the area referred to as Hampton Roads. Hampton Roads consists of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach. Depending on traffic, there are many great places to live within 30 minutes of Naval Station Norfolk.

The area is surrounded by beaches, restaurants, bars, museums, aquariums, boating, golfing, fishing, historical sites, and amusement parks. There is plenty to do in this tourist hot spot and it has a large military community.
